What   Adventure Racing is a teamwork challenge that combines Mountain Biking, Trail Running and a revolving discipline.  For our race, the third discipline will be Paddling. The team must complete each section of the course together and must cross the finish line as a team, challenging them to work together and stay together! Something new: This year we will be adding a Singles Division.

The exact order, distance and route of the events is notMountain Biking revealed until the day of the race. Whether you're a hardened veteran or a first-time adventure racer, everyone is on the same playing field, enhancing the atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

The course of each Adventure Race is truly unique and suited to the specific terrain of the area. The 2009 Flying Frog Adventure Race includes a 10-15 mile Mountain Bike course, 5-10 mile Trail Run and a 2-5 mile Paddling course. There will be lots of basic navigation throughout and special challenges that will be secret until the racers actually approach the challenge. The course is gentle enough to be finished by the novice racer, while challenging enough for the experienced adventure racer. This race is scheduled to last 4-8 hours. The course will give you lots of gradual inclines while revealing some of the most scenic views of Lake Brandt.

The growing sport of Adventure Racing is proving to be the most popular sport of the new millennium. Appealing to weekend warriors and professional racers alike, this one-day adventure race will test your physical and mental endurance.                        

When   The 2009 Flying Frog Adventure Race will be Canoe/Kayakingheld on Saturday, September 12. The race start time will be 10 a.m. You will be required to set up your bike equipment at the staging area from 8-9 a.m. The pre-race briefing will be at 9:30 a.m. at Lake Brandt.

Where   The 2009 Flying Frog Adventure Race will be held at Lake Brandt in Greensboro, N.C. The race will take you around the lake, which is located in the northwest area of the city, through streams and along trails.

Format   Teams will consist of 3-persons (age 18 or older) and will compete in one of the following divisions: co-ed, all-male or all-female. Registration will be open to the first 30 teams. The Singles Division will be open to the first 15 participants total in both Male and Female Divisions. Support Crews are optional. Only one vehicle will be allowed on-site at Lake Brandt. Off-site parking will be available.

Cost  The registration fee is $120 per team before June 1, 2009 and $180 per team on or after June 1. 2009. Registration fee is $45 for singles before June 1, 2009 and $60 for singles on or after June 1, 2009. Registration fee is non-refundable. TEAM ROSTERS NEED NOT BE FINALIZED UNTIL RACE DAY. Proceeds will support the Lakes and Trails division of the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department.

Gear   Adventure Race. Greensboro, NC. 4 miles paddling 10 miles mountain biking 10 miles hiking/running lots of navigation.  Gentile enough to be finished by the novice challenging enough for the experienced adventure racer.  This race is scheduled to last between 3 to 6 hours.  Each team will be responsible for providing the following equipment for each member: Mountain bike, helmet (must be ANSI or SNELL certified), running gear, map bag, compass and equipment for the transition area (water bottles, ice, food, first aid kit, etc.). Matching team shirts are encouraged but not required. Canoes or kayaks, paddles, life jackets and race bibs will be provided.

Prizes   Provided by our sponsors will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division based on minimum registration for each division.

Rules   These rules are written to ensure the safety and integrity of the 2009 Flying Frog Adventure Race. The rules will be enforced by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation staff. Any protests can be made after completion of the race to a race official by the team Beautiful Lake Brandtcaptain. All decisions by the race officials are final. Non-compliance with any of the following will result in disqualification.

▪ All team members must be 18 years or older. Proof of age may be required.

▪ All team members must be present for check-in.

▪ All team members must sign a waiver at check-in.

▪ All team members must complete each section of the course together and must cross the finish line as a team.

▪ All teams must start at the designated start line and finish at the designated finish line. Each team must stay on and complete the course as marked.

▪ The team cannot be separated (from the first team member to the last) by more than 100 feet at any time during the race.

▪ All team members must wear their race bib to be visible at all times during the race.

▪ Each team will be issued a race card at check-in. There will be stations throughout the race where you will be required to obtain punches. All teams must present their race card at the finish line with all checkpoints punched.

▪ No interference or alteration of a trail marking or punch device is permitted.

▪ No outside assistance is permitted at any time.

▪ No use of any electronic device other than watches or compasses is permitted at any time.

▪ All team members must wear their life jacket when on the water.

You may change team members, division, etc. at any time prior to the start of the race with notification to the race official.
